  Training whilst furloughed
Posted by: Eco Attractions - 05-13-2020, 10:57 AM - Forum: Requests for support - Replies (9)

Hello
We are a social enterprise working with eco attractions around the UK helping connect people with nature and inspire sustainable living. We are a tiny network just me part time with a huge reach and one question that keeps coming up is the ambiguity around staff being furloughed and what training they can do. My understanding is furloughed staff can't do training that is a service or helps develop income but how does this translate into what training they can do. For example can a marketing officer do marketing training?

Be great to have views and does anyone have any links to free online training providers?

Thank you and hope you are all surviving out there!

  BBS Scheme

Does anyone know if the BBS scheme can be used by CICs who are not quite there making more than 50% of their income from trading yet?

First time grant application - guidance please
Posted by: Kris @ The Burnt Chef Project - 05-13-2020, 10:28 AM - Forum: Requests for support - Replies (6)

Hi All,

Pleased to be involved in this membership and look forward to connecting with you all.

I'm at the stage where I need to obtain funding, ideally in the form or a grant, in order for my business to grow and further increase its social impact whilst also funding a salary so I can support my financial obligations.

I'm not comfortable taking funds out of the business, at this current stage, with a turnover of around £3k a month and naturally I am keen to make my business a full time venture.

If anyone has experience of a social enterprise at this stage and can offer advise or direction on where to go for grants/funding then I would appreciate it.

N.B - business plan, full financial forecasts and social Impact tests all ready to go.

  Covid Coping
Posted by: RainbowBiz CIC - 05-13-2020, 08:49 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Hi everyone,

How are you all coping?  The announcement of a further 3 week lockdown in Wales, Scotland and Ireland may have affected people's mental health.  As a social enterprise that supports some of the most marginalised members of the community, we have been and continue to keep in close contact with the people we support.  Worrying times indeed.

How are you dealing with the stress?

  Motivating your team during lockdown
Posted by: Inside Job Productions - 05-07-2020, 10:30 AM - Forum: Managing people through Covid-19 - Replies (2)

Hi all

Interested to know how people are continuing to motivate their team during lockdown. After 6 weeks I feel the need to do more than just daily Zoom calls.

Thanks

Ann

  Website Rebuild
Posted by: RainbowBiz CIC - 05-06-2020, 12:30 PM - Forum: Adapting your business - No Replies

We are making the most of having more time and currently working on a complete rebuild of our website.  It feels good to have time to research, test and implement quite major changes.  Obviously, it would have been much better under happier circumstances, but I am trying to remain positive.

I don't particularly want to share a link to our old website right now, I'll be back with the new one when it's released though  Wink

  Microsoft Teams
Posted by: RainbowBiz CIC - 05-06-2020, 10:22 AM - Forum: Managing people through Covid-19 - No Replies

We have used Teams for several months prior to lockdown.  I personally quite like it as it groups topics and conversations, which means I find it easier to locate what was said, etc.  However, some of our staff do struggle with the concept and also are not always receiving updates.

If I need to speak to someone quickly, I tend to resort back to text, call or Facebook messenger.

Anyone else us other systems?

Sue

Thumbs Up Zoom is the best platform

From my experience Zoom works best. It seems to have an intuitive way of allowing people to come in and out on a large group call.
