  Recruitment during lockdown
Posted by: benwhite - 08-06-2020, 06:55 AM - Forum: Supporting team members - No Replies

Hello - Nice to meet you all. I'm Ben, Managing Director of Reason Digital (https://reasondigital.com/) - a design agency that uses digital to solve problems that actually matter.

Would like to ask if anyone has recruited / onboarded a new employee during lockdown? We've done so but found it was a more difficult process than we'd first thought, especially in terms of replicating some of the more 'intangible' parts of onboarding (team lunches, after work drinks etc.)

I'll be on the forum live tomorrow at 11am, so please feel free to share your experiences

Ben

  Reimagining your Social Enterprise
Posted by: benwhite - 08-06-2020, 06:38 AM - Forum: Working in a Digital world - No Replies

Hello - Nice to meet you all. I'm Ben, Managing Director of Reason Digital (https://reasondigital.com/) - a design agency that uses digital to solve problems that actually matter.

Due to the nature of our mission we do the vast majority of our work with charity partners - many of whom are starting to deliver their services online. One thing that we preach is that digital services shouldn't just seek to replicate offline services, but should be re-imagined and re-designed to take advantage of the unique opportunities digital can offer.

I'll be on the forum live tomorrow at 11am, would be interested in any on the forum are having thoughts along these lines in terms of their own businesses?

Ben

Remote working advice from 2 years in the future
Posted by: benwhite - 08-06-2020, 06:26 AM - Forum: Working in a Digital world - No Replies

Hello - Nice to meet you all. I'm Ben, Managing Director of Reason Digital (https://reasondigital.com/) - a design agency that uses digital to solve problems that actually matter.

We've been operating as a remote working organization for around 2 years now, meaning that our team have all been equipped to work remotely at their discretion. I can't calin that we weren't amazingly far sighted about this, it was driven by the fact that a) all of the teams working materials (designs, plans, code) have always been stored in the cloud and b) our client base now predominantly consists of larger national charities, most of whom are based in central London - so the majority of our client interactions are remote.

I'll be on the forum live tomorrow at 11am, so please feel free to ask me any questions

  Dealing with harassment and discrimination

There are many initiatives organisations can and should take to promote diversity and inclusion.

An important part of that is dealing with allegations of discrimination or harassment?

What should employers do when faced with such a situation?

Clearly an investigation will be needed and any internal policies on the same should be followed.

Investigations should be swift and fair.

Support should be given to all those involved.

  Organisational obligations

With many more people now being able to work effectively from home and wanting to do so, organisations may move to making this a more permanent reality for staff.

When doing so what changes ought to be made to terms and conditions and what policy framework ought to be put in place?

Essentially, what must organisations do to protect themselves?

And how should organisations respond to requests if they do not want to move to more home working?

A policy should be developed setting out when WFH is appropriate and what responsibilities go with it.

The employment contract should also be amended to add specific protections.

And don't forget to manage the data protection issues arising.

  Diversity and race

The mismanagement of issues of diversity in the workplace can often lead to social exclusion and create a discriminatory work environment. What advise / resources / best practise do you have to ensure this doesn't happen?

Stigma around mental health in the workplace

Considerable stigma still exists around mental health and disclosing to employers when work is impacting on our psychological well being.

Do you have any top tips to create a safe and transparent environment around mental health in the workplace?

MHFA England: becoming an anti-racist social enterprise
Posted by: simon.blake@mhfaengland.org - 07-24-2020, 11:57 AM - Forum: Diversity and Inclusion - No Replies

At MHFA England we have set out our commitment to become an anti-racist social enterprise. Equity must be at the heart of achieving our vision of improving the mental health of the nation and our mission of training 1:10 of the adult population. Keen to share and learn from other social enterprises - this is our statement of intent in case it is helpful. https://mhfaengland.org/mhfa-centre/news...of-intent/

Would love to see what others are doing!
